Since “sentimental” became a word with a particularly “strangely” nuance and a synonym of something slender in manner, we rather use it more frequently. With the idea to show that sentimental means actually aware and vigorous. So there it is- something really sentimental about this next project. It’s probably a thing that we connect with solitude, not loneliness. An idea we connect with pondering over something lost and a dream of something waiting to be found.
It’s a story about finding your own engine that drives you towards.
Probably the best projects we have considered here in this journal are the ones among nature. A bit away from the busy streets and colourful department stores, a step aside from the billboards and neon ads.
A shady walnut minimalist house
The best places are those where you see not only yourself but the people you care about- the pillars of your life. Places, supplied with love, hate, beginnings or endings- poles and reasons in life.

Unlike any other architectural creation, the Gorski Kotar House came to be thanks to a single tree growing in a striking mountainous landscape in Croatia. A shady walnut tree first inspired the building of an outdoor space and terrace, which in turn led to the building of the entire home. Influenced by the natural environment it calls home; the house becomes one with the sloped terrain and one with it remains. It becomes a perfectly integrated part of the landscape at the same time as well. The compact dwelling consists of a simple pitched roof and Siberian larch cladding covered with black wood tar finish. This traditional treatment protects the natural material from the elements and also extends its durability significantly- actually, probably the best thing about things and items is their durability. Because it reminds that everything in our world is simply rented and transient and we must value its price now. Not tomorrow, but now. A black monolith looking out towards the mountains, the house stands out in this charming forested area- perfect location for the dreamers.
As we were going through the photos of this house, we couldn’t help but wonder the kind of people who would rather spend a season or a lifetime here. And we could not get to any solution. We could call it a trend-based sentimental speculation of ours, why not. Because the moment we put the cards down we see that every place has its destined owners, every item has a reason to be used by someone with a particular purpose- a designated driver which will use it as it has to be used.
